Hello friends. Today, I'll be telling you the story of Lacey Sebastian
Lacey is a teenager living in Oasis Springs
With her Mother, Alice
She spends her time listening to rock music and hanging out with her boyfriend, Ryder
The couple have been together for a year and on the night of homecoming, they decide to take the next step
With Alice away for a work meeting, they have the house to themselves - they spend the weekend watching movies and enjoying each other's company
The next few weeks are great as the couple finish out their Junior year of high school
But, just a few weeks from the end of the school year, Lacey comes down with the flu, missing out on the end of year festivities!
At Alice's request, she takes the next few days off of school - napping most of the day
A week passes and she's feeling no better, and she begins to suspect another cause for her sickness
She's pregnant!
She can't believe that she's pregnant, she was so sure she was careful
Over the next few weeks Lacey tries to keep her pregnancy a secret while she tries to decide what to do
But before long, the bump is hard to hide
And no closer to a decision, it's time to tell her Mum
When Alice arrives home from work that afternoon, Lacey sits her down and breaks the news
Alice is shocked, Lacey is emotional, and both are confused as to what to do next
After a talk about options
Lacey knows what she has to do next - she needs to tell Ryder
Thanking her Mum for being supportive, and prepares to tell her boyfriend the news
At their favourite spot just down the street from her house, Lacey tells Ryder that she's pregnant
He's shocked, but promises to support his girlfriend in whatever she decides to do
The rest of the second trimester passes quickly
Despite not being totally sure of what to do about the baby, Lacey knows for sure that she wants to finish school, so getting her work done is a priority
And so is Lacey and baby's health, so Alice is making sure that she's getting plenty of healthy meals
One evening as Lacey is preparing to enter her third trimester, she's watching TV with Alice
Then she receives a phone call that changes everything
Ryder was involved in an accident and passed away!
Lacey is heartbroken as she breaks the news to Alice about Ryder's death
The next few weeks are hard for the expecting Mum as she is forced to make the decision about her child alone
Before his untimely death, Ryder and Lacey were discussing adoption for their child
Not knowing if she could raise the child alone and also fulfil the hopes she and Ryder had for their futures, Lacey decides that she wants to explore adoption
So, as she enters her third trimester, Lacey heads to an appointment with an adoption agent
The agent explains the different kinds of adoptions, from closed to open, and the types of families looking to adopt
Alice and Lacey agree that an open adoption would be something worth exploring, so Lacey could meet her child and tell them about their father one day
The adoption agent tells Lacey about a few families looking to adopt, from a married couple with three kids to a single mother wanting another child
Alice leaves her daughter to discuss the families in more depth, before finding out about the perfect person to care for the child
A woman who has a son, and lost her fiance suddenly, wants to raise a child the way her adoptive parents raised her
Lacey immediately falls in love with the little family and agrees to the match
And the decision is made! Lacey's baby will have a loving family, and she will be able to visit sometimes
The next few weeks pass quickly and Lacey enjoys her final month of pregnancy, making plans for after the birth to attend culinary school
And before long at all, it's time to have the baby
Lacey has an easy labour and soon she gives birth to a beautiful baby girl
She enjoys some time with her daughter
Feeding her and getting acquainted
Before having to say an emotional goodbye
She promises to see her soon and makes a wish for her, to have a happy life full of love
Alice gets to say goodbye to her granddaughter
Before it's time for the adoption agent to take the baby to a special home, where she will bond with her new mother before going home with her
After a final goodbye and after getting a photo with her daughter
The baby girl is taken to meet her new family, where she will be loved and cared for
That little girl, as we all know, was named Penelope Jolene Armstrong
And she is loved by her family, by Lacey, and of course, by us.
And that, friends, is the story of how Penelope came into Josette's life
Lacey is now working in level three of the culinary career, has since seen her daughter again, and is attending a grief group to help her handle the loss of her boyfriend
