This is Kate Armstrong. A young adult she is just starting out in the world. Her ultimate dream is to become a successful published author, as well as wanting to find love and start a family.

The first step to starting her new, independent life is to find a house. In the town of Willow Creek, Kate finds two houses that appeal to her (and her budget of 20,000).
Firstly, she comes across a lovely one-bedroom bungalow, already furnished, for a little under 15,000. The idea of furnishings being included in the deposit certainly appeals to Kate, who’s only ever decorated her teenage bedroom (poorly, I may add) before, so this is a certain possibility…

As lovely as this house is, we must keep looking around…
Just along the road from this house is a gorgeous two-bedroom, unfurnished house for a little under 10,000 – leaving 10,000 to furnish it to our own taste! Though this house does mean that Kate will have control over what furniture she buys, she isn’t sure…

Kate start to weigh up the options and...
In the end, Kate decides that the second house’s second bedroom is perfect – she can turn it into an office for all her writing needs! So, even if it needs furnishing, that’s a small price to pay for an office of her own!
The only thing left to do is fill it with some furniture with her 10,000 budget…

Kate does a rather good job furnishing her new home with her budget (if she does say so herself!). She designs her bedroom in one of her favourite colours – blue. She sticks with beige and black for the living room, goes basic in the bathroom, and purchases a cheap $800 computer and some plants for her office. (She later also buys a bookshelf)
With everything a starter home needs, Kate is officially all moved in and making her way in the world!
HOORAY!
Before long, Kate has another thing to tick off the to-do list; with only 300 simoleons in her budget, Kate needs to get a job.

After a quick internet search, Kate finds an opening for a writer’s assistant paying $25 an hour – not the most glamourous of jobs, but any job in the writing field is a great opportunity to improve her writing skills and maybe even meet someone who will one day publish her books!
Her first assignment from her new boss comes through quickly – she must read a book (of her choice!) and report back. To some, this sounds like a tedious task – but not to our Kate! She gets settled in with one of her favourites; Lucas Dark and the Increasingly Unlikely Series of Coincidences.

Unfortunately for Kate, her reading is soon interrupted by a knock at the door…

Her new neighbours, Liberty, Summer and Travis have popped over to welcome her to the neighbourhood!
As much as Kate loves reading, she is happy to greet her new neighbours and welcomes the chance to make her first friends in her new town.
She happily invites her neighbours in for a chat and some gourmet fruitcake that Summer kindly brought over for her.
They discuss the neighbourhood, and Kate tells them about her new job and her aspiration to become a published author.

She quickly learns that Liberty is a fellow bookworm, and the conversations soon turns to books.
Travis joins the conversation soon after, and the conversations turns back to something more neutral; the weather. It’s very hot today, and naturally, Kate wants to discuss it. She expresses her dislike for the hot weather; she is more of a winter person.

After some interesting conversation and a few slices of gourmet fruitcake, the trio must leave; Kate bids them farewell and thanks them again for coming over to welcome her to the neighbourhood. She is assured that she has made three new friends in her new town, and she and Liberty make plans to meet for a book club coffee soon.

BYE GUYS!
Kate decides to quickly tidy up before returning to her book.

You can’t fault her motivation to keep things tidy!
I can hear my Dad laughing at how I always make my sims neat, despite being a messy so-and-so myself! Sorry Dad!
Feeling peckish after exerting herself with socialising, Kate decides to whip up her first meal in her new home; grilled cheese!
She doesn’t burn the house down which is a great start…

And it doesn’t taste too bad either, as she settles down in front of the evening news to eat her dinner and think over the events of her first day.

Kate being Kate, she decides to finish her book (which she needs to do, I suppose, for her first day of work tomorrow), so she settles down on the couch to finish reading.

As she finishes her book, she realises it’s still far too early to go to bed (it’s only 7.30), so she decides to go for an evening stroll and look around her new neighbourhood.

She makes a note of some nice-looking plants and a community garden, as she often enjoys picking flowers to clear her mind or get inspired to start a new story.
And with that, Kate’s first day in Willow Creek comes to an end. She gets tucked into bed to get some shut-eye before her first day at work tomorrow…

How will her first day go? Will she make any friends at work? Will she become inspired to write anything good?

Find out next time!
